Hayes and Yeading United completed the double over Hitchin Town with a narrow home victory which was played at Top Field, Hitchin as part of a double header.
It was Hitchin who took the lead on six minutes when Sean Herr smashed the ball in from the edge of the area, beating Alex Tokarczyk at his near post.
However, seven minutes later, parity was restored when Martin Merritt’s throughball was flicked into the path of Pierre Joseph-Dubois by Daniel Wishart, and the French forward hit his low shot underneath the body of Ryan Yule and into the net.
Hitchin responded and Adam and Lee Neale completed a neat one two before the former mishit his shot and the ball ballooned over. United responded with a fine passing move started by Portuguese midfielder Andre Gomez who found Wishart, he unselfishly played in George Isaac on the left hand side. His shot hit the outside of the post and rebounded to safety for the Canaries.
Just three minutes had passed in the second half whereby United had scored twice more to take the game away from Hitchin. Half time substitute Andy Yiadom really put his immediate stamp on the game as he combined with Isaac with some skilful approach play between the pair, culminating in Isaac’s clever backheel into Yiadom’s path and the former Watford youngster smashed the ball in off the far post.
Just a minute later, another purposeful run from Yiadom and a slide rule pass into Gomez’s intelligent diagonal run set up a third goal as Gomez applied a sublime finish inside the near post.
Hitchin battled back and reduced the arrears eight minutes later as Adam produced a precise lob over Tokarczyk’s head. However, they were denied by a superb save from United’s young keeper in the final minute. Substitute Josh Langlais broke the offside trap and advanced down the right channel only for Tokarczyk to show great reactions to push away his fierce drive, and Adam’s rebound was cleared off the line by Charlie McCarthy, who had got back to cover just in time.
