A stirring second half performance from Phil Babb's Hayes and Yeading United side earned a hard fought victory to extend the good away form which has marked the season so far.

The opening exchanges were played at a frenetic pace but only some wayward shots from both sides, Adam Everitt with United's, were notable. The first save made was from Mikhael Jaimez-Ruiz, who tipped over a shot from Chas Hemmings which had looped up menacingly off Charlie Wassmer's boot.

The home side enjoyed a lengthy spell of possession as the game settled in, although they found United's defence resolute and their advances broke down in the final third. On a breakaway, Luke Williams ran through the middle before hitting United's first shot on target, a 25 harder which bounced into Luke Purnell's hands. Hemmings responded for Weston with a fine bit of skill to pass Everitt on the bye-line, only to see his low centre cross the face of goal without a teammate getting anywhere near it.

More strong running in the middle of the park, this time from Louie Soares, resulted in another long range shot which keeper Purnell had to get down to field, but although it was well hit, he did so fairly comfortably.

Play became crowded in midfield for a while afterwards, although a smart turn from Hemmings gave him the space to shoot from outside the area, only for the tall striker to pull his shot wide of the left hand upright.

United responded as the lively pair of Williams and Soares combined to set the latter loose on the home defence, only for his deflected effort to be saved by a diving Purnell. In the closing stages of the half, Ash Kington hit a low shot to test Jaimez-Ruiz's concentration, but he was alert enough to save down to his left.

The second half started with more play condensed in the midfield areas but manager Phil Babb made a change six minutes in which was to reap immediate rewards as substitute Jake Reid scored with his first touch after Jaimez-Ruiz's long clearance deceived the Seagulls' defence putting it into an empty net after running beyond keeper Purnell.

Hemmings looked to respond immediately for the hosts, but Jaimez-Ruiz gathered in his low shot comfortably. He was tested far more by Naby Diallo's curling effort shortly afterwards but he applied a good firm hand to beat the shot away. The same player turned on a low Jordan Walker centre but fired his 15 yard shot just wide of the post.

The introduction of Reid not only provided the opening goal, but also a more mobile threat up front and his smart turn allowed him to bear down on goal again, only this time his shot went inches wide of the far post. However, on 69 minutes he collected Everitt's throughball before playing a perfectly weighted pass to put Williams through and he fired the ball into the bottom corner to make it 2-0.

The second goal seemed to dent the home team's confidence and it wasn't until 10 minutes later that they managed to threaten Jaimez-Ruiz's goal when Kington hit a rasping drive which the Venezualan stopper did well to push to safety. Diallo also hit a long shot soon afterwards but Jaimez-Ruiz watched it roll harmlessly wide.

United cemented the win on 88 minutes. Anthony Furlonge put substitute Allen Bossman, on for man of the match Williams after he'd taken a knock, away on the right and his cross was met at the near post by Reid with a bullet header into the top corner.
