Hayes & Yeading’s second pre-season run out again ended in stalemate as hosts Camberley Town struck twice in the final seven minutes to wipe out United’s lead from the first 45 minutes.
A new/old face appeared in the United side in the form of central defender Matt Ruby who has returned to the club having been with our now landlords Maidenhead United last season.
With the home side playing up the hill, the first on target effort of the game saw United keeper Mikhael Jaimez-Ruiz called into action to push out an angled drive from the left side of the box.
United then started to assert themselves on the game. Matty Harriott played a free-kick short to Rhys Murrell-Williamson who turned inside and hit a rasping drive from 25 yards that flew into the Camberley net.
A couple of minutes later a neat Ashleigh Artwell clip over the defence found Pat Cox having been missed by the home keeper, the United striker being denied by a goal line clearance by a retreating midfielder.
The home keeper then did well to push out a Harriott shot before a long range effort at the other end only just cleared the United goal. Saul Otobo was put through only to be denied by the home keeper who stood up well to the advancing United man.
Cox headed just over on the half hour mark before United doubled the lead in first half stoppage time as Ruby rose at the far post to head home a Murrell-Williamson corner.
United seemed to take their foot off the pedal in the second half and seven minutes in the hosts almost pulled one back, United being saved by the upright.
Murrell-Williamson saw a free-kick saved in one of United’s few on target efforts of the second period before with 7 minutes left the home side scored in spectacular fashion. Jaimez-Ruiz’s goal kick was brought under control on the edge of the centre circle and fired straight back from when it had come, sailing over the United stoppers head into the roof of the net.
Then in stoppage time, with United having given some of the Academy players and trialists some game time, Camberley drew level when a corner was not cleared and the ball was headed past George Upton from 8 yards out.
